I was delighted to get a tight shot of these beautiful eyes belonging to the elusive Regis. He is very nervous coming outside, so, during the quiet moment while he was looking around to make sure all was as it should be, I was able to capture a few lovely portraits of him. Thank-you Regis. (Please check out faunchimps to follow the lives of these remarkable creatures living in sanctuary.)
Paro the baby harp seal is probably the cutest therapeutic robot in the world, designed by Dr Takanori Shibata for the purpose of stimulating the minds of people with cognitive disorders and to comfort those in need. This cuddly smart creature is equipped with various sensors, which allows it to react to the environment, respond to touch and express behaviors in a natural way. Paro is able to track motion, recognize light and dark, remember sounds, and interactions. It can mimic the voice of a real baby seal and its diurnal rhythm enables it to be active during the day and asleep at night. If Paro needs charging, just give it a pacifier. How can you resist such irresistible cuteness?
